Why study this course?
This course offers students who speak another language to gain a certificate for their bilingualism. Students who have studied language at A Level go on to have careers in a variety of sectors including teaching, translating, sales and marketing, travel and tourism, journalism, fashion, work in the foreign office or secret service, interpreting and banking.
What will I learn?
Students will be prepared in Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing skills. Languages offered for mother tongue speakers:
- Italian
- German
- Mandarin
- Polish.
They will take mock examinations.
How will I be taught?
Students will be taught in 1 period a week after school club. Students can also attend their Community school on Saturday and have a teacher certifying their attendance.
The parents/guardians need also to support their daughters in preparing for the examination. Mrs Jarrett liaises with parents/guardian to ensure that they know how to support students effectively.
How many hours a week of private study are recommended?
Students are recommended to study approx. 3 hours with parents/guardians.

Assessment
- A pre mock to check comprehension, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Mock examinations in December.
- Regular assessment at the end of each unit covered.
- Speaking test in April/May and examination as set by the boards.
