Friday 29 March 2024 Sheriff's Challenge Champions - 2024 Year 12 students, once again, participated in the prestigious Sheriff’s challenge, sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Insurers. A huge congratulations to the winning team (Paris, Nyree, Insalf, Kachine, Uriel and Zachary) who emerged victorious in the final round at the Old Bailey, after competing in multiple heats against three other schools.

Monday 22 May 2023 T Level Media students ITV work experience As a school we were thrilled that a number of students had the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at ITV. T Level Media studies teacher Mr Lopez secured exceptional work experience for five of our talented students out of only eight available places across London. The students had the privilege of filming an advertisement with the renowned Gok Wan and worked on "This Morning" alongside hosts Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond. This invaluable experience has provided them with unique insights into the media industry, we are very proud of them, their hard work and dedication have resulted in this fantastic achievement. As a school we were thrilled that a number of students had the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at ITV. Wednesday 26 April 2023 Professor Arlene Wellman MBE Opens new Midwifery Suite On Tuesday 25th April 2023 we welcomed Professor Arlene Wellman MBE to open our new Health Midwifery Suite. Professor Arlene, England’s most senior, internationally trained, Acute Trust Chief Nursing Officer delivered an inspiring talk on how she embarked on her career, coming from Trinidad and Tobago over 20 years ago developing her career in nursing and helping others. Our T Level Midwifery students were very enthusiastic to meet Professor Arlene and ready to put into practice what they have learnt, showing how they would take a patients blood pressure and vital checks. Also in attendence were staff from Guy and St Thomas Trust who talked with the students about how they could further embark on a career in Nursing. Tuesday 18 April 2023 Year 12 & 13 Trip to Greece Before the Easter Half Term, a number of Year 12 and 13 students and Teachers embarked on a trip to Athens, Greece as part of their Sociology studies. The trip was an eye-opening opportunity for everybody to embrace the Customs and Culture of Greece. The group visited The Holy University Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary - Panagia Kapnikarea a very Unique church in Greece where miracles have been registered, and is also one of the oldest churches in Athens dated to the Middle-Byzantine period. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary (specifically to the Presentation of Mary to the Temple) and is generally known as Kapnikarea, In 1834 the building was in danger of being demolished. The group also had the privilege to visit The Acropolis of Athens and its monuments, which are universal symbols of the classical spirit and civilization and form the greatest architectural and artistic complex bequeathed by Greek Antiquity to the world. Thursday 23 March 2023 Year 13 A Level Drama and Theatre examination: Scripted performance Audience members from years 11 to 13 enjoyed the excellent, professional performances that were delivered by Year 13 students of Drama and Theatre, Prince, Erin, Angeline and Zara. Great gratitude is also extended to Kelly operating sound and Ms Norman on lighting. Firstly, the four performers delivered excellent monologues from a selection of plays, all emotionally charged and engaging. Secondly, as a group, they performed a substantial extract from David Edgar’s play, Baby Love”, which demanded multi role-playing and ensemble style acting, besides individual characterisations. All four displayed highly accomplished renditions, which will hopefully be rewarded duly by the examiner. Well done! to everybody involved.

Thursday 9 March 2023 National Careers Week In line with National Careers week (6th-11th March 2023) and in response to outdated perceptions of work experience, Gatsby is urging parents to learn more about the benefits and opportunities the 45-day T-level industry placement can offer their child if they choose to study the new qualification. Created with employers and equivalent to three A-levels, T-levels offer a unique blend of 80% classroom study and 20% industry placement, putting skills into action and creating a ‘job-ready’ generation that have gained hands-on experience in an actual working environment within their chosen industry. T-level subjects span many specialist areas, from construction and healthcare, to digital and engineering; all providing expert knowledge to students, helping them stand out to employers within their chosen fields. Friday 27 January 2023 T LEVEL CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS WORK WITH ISG The T Level Construction students have had a fabulous start to the course. They all completed a week work experience with ISG. Congratulations to those students who have secured their industry placements. Eduarda, Anet and Aaron are now working for ISG on iconic buildings such as Millenium House and the Woolworth Building. Afrafat is working for Wates and Nylah and Tishan are working at Hydrock and engineering company based in London Bridge.

Friday 9 December 2022 La Retraite 6 v Sacred Heart RC School On the 22nd of November, La Retraite 6 welcomed Sacred Heart RC School for a very competitive game of football. With spectators watching the game. Both teams were determined to win, with both missing chances. La Retraite finally broke the deadlock halfway through the first half with Ronaldinho scoring a brilliant volley after a scramble from a corner kick to make it 1-0. The high intensity of the game was maintained throughout and was brilliant for the spectators. Sacred equalised and scored a well-deserved goal to make to make it 1-1. La Retraite responded very well to conceding a goal and soon regained control of the game. La Retraite showed great defending skills from a Sacred Heart corner, and showed how good their counter-attacking skills are with Samy showing great speed and composure before slotting the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1. La Retraite showed resilience and battled, with many players making brilliant interceptions and tackles to keep lead intact. I

Friday 14 October 2022 Minister for Skills Visits La Retraite 6 to Mark National T Levels Week Week commencing 10th October marked the beginning of national T Levels week, a movement to celebrate the successes and promote T Levels.

Wednesday 12 October 2022 Fenwick Estate Site Visit On Wednesday 5th October, T-Level Construction Students visited the Fenwick Estate Development in North Clapham. TfL are building 55 new affordable homes and a community centre on the Fenwick Estate near Clapham North Tube station. The Fenwick development is part of the wider Northern Line Extension project and provides an opportunity to accelerate the delivery of affordable homes in the borough.

Tuesday 4 October 2022 Hayward Gallery Visit Y12 Art and Textiles were able to see the amazing exhibition ‘In The Black Fantastic’ at the Hayward Gallery before it closed. The show exhibited the work of 11 contemporary artists from the African diaspora, who draw on science fiction, myth and Afrofuturism to question our knowledge of the world. Encompassing painting, photography, video, sculpture and mixed-media installations, the exhibition creates immersive aesthetic experiences that bring the viewer into a new environment somewhere between the real world and a multiplicity of imagined ones. Students enjoyed looking at the exhibition and were able to take inspiration from the artist in preparation for their Personal Investigations.

Thursday 29 September 2022 Visit from Baroness Sater Baroness Sater came to visit our school and had a tour of our facilities viewing the area that the Cadets use. Baroness Slater spoke to each Cadet individually and watched them do their drill. The Cadets welcomed the opportunity to showcase their skills. knowledge and ability.

Monday 5 September 2022 First Ever T Level Cohort! On the 18th of August 2022, La Retraite 6 celebrated the outstanding results attained by the first ever completed T Level cohort, which saw 100% of students pass their exams, exceeding national averages and an incredible 62% of students achieve A*-B grades. In addition, of the 29 T Level students, one achieved A*A*A*, six students celebrated AAA and 11 students attained BBB.

Thursday 1 September 2022 Catching up with the Legacy: Tihara La Retraite 6 alumna Tihara Smith joined the Haringey Learning Partnership for Windrush Day, to share her Windrush-inspired graduate fashion collection, which was selected for display at Graduate Fashion Week in 2018. Students were inspired by Tihara’s work and design process, and have since created their own designs to share at the school’s own exhibition.
