Minister for Skills Visits La Retraite 6 to Mark National T Levels Week

Week commencing 10th October marked the beginning of national T Levels week, a movement to celebrate the successes and promote T Levels.

As part of La Retraite 6’s celebration of T Level week, Minister for Skills Andrea Jenkyns MP visited the Sixth Form, touring the facilities with Headteacher Dominic Malins Director of Sixth Form Ruth Coyle.

Throughout the visit, Minister for Skills met with T Level Health Midwifery, Childcare, Construction and Digital students, alongside teaching staff including Head of Health Midwifery, Legal, Media, Childcare and Computing to further explore the delivery of subjects and course content. Minister for Skills also visited the purpose built Aya Centre, to see first-hand how Capital Bid money was used for the T Level Childcare and Digital courses, and future promotion for the Legal and Media T Level.

Of her visit, Minister for Skills commented “A fantastic visit to La Retraite 6 in South London to mark T Levels week, meeting inspiring young people studying our new gold standard technical qualification. T Levels are a great pathway for students, giving them workplace experience as well as a valued qualification”.

La Retraite 6 Director of Sixth Form stated “I was thrilled to welcome the Skills Minister to our Outstanding Sixth Form this month, to meet with our fantastic students and expert teachers, and experience first-hand the incredible education our students receive in first-class facilities. MP Jenkyns met with our students to find out how our T Level provision is positively impacting them and supporting the achievement of their ambitions by equipping them with the knowledge and experiences they require to embark on their chosen pathways. We look forward to further expanding our offer in the future”.

In August 2022, the first ever complete T Level cohort celebrated 100% of students passing their exams, exceeding national averages, and an incredible 62% of students attaining A*-B grades.

La Retraite 6 is an Ofsted Outstanding Sixth Form and was one of the first centres in England to pioneer T Level education in September 2020, currently offering its 400 co-educational cohort Digital, Childcare Education, Health Midwifery and Construction T Levels alongside A Level and Cambridge Technical qualifications. La Retraite 6 continues to expand its offer for students, launching Creative Media and Legal Services to its T Level syllabus in September 2023.
