The curriculum is crafted so that learners combine classroom theory, practical learning and a 3-month industry placement with an employer thus ensuring learners have a real experience of the workplace and a skilled job.

Overview of course content

You will learn the differences between a range of childcare and education provision, and the different responsibilities and career opportunities of a range of roles in the education childcare sectors. 

As part of the course, you will get the opportunity to look after real babies, participate in practical workshops and attend work placements.

In addition, you will develop a knowledge of psychology by learning about psychological theories, such as the cognitivist and constructivist approaches together with factors affecting human behaviour and cognitive development.

Additionally, you will study the biology behind chronic conditions, models of disability and speech, language and communication difficulties.

Assessment

In year 1, you will be assessed through an employer-set project and an externally marked exam. 

In year 2 you will specialise in Education and Childcare and be assessed by synoptic assessments and observations, carried out while on work placements.
