Industry Placement Funding & Student Support
Each education establishment that offers T Levels is allocated T Level Industry Placement Funding for each T Level Student and it is up to each institution to decide how this funding will be utilised.
According to the guidance issued on the GOV.UK website, this funding is to ‘support the infrastructure and resource required to plan, source, deliver and monitor industry placements’
With this in mind, the school wants to ensure that part of the funding ensures that no T Level student is financially disadvantaged by the process of working on an industry placement.
Funding for placements:
The school has deemed eligibility to Free School Meals as a sign of disadvantage so will only subsidise FSM eligible students for:
Food Costs
If a student is entitled to Free School Meals in school, then they will be paid £5 per day for each day of their placement to cover the loss of a free lunch that they would normally have at school. This will be paid in the form of supermarket vouchers with £100 worth being paid in advance of the first day of their industry placement (and which will cover 20 days of their placement). The remaining allocation will be paid before the second 25 days of their placement. The total work placement length is normally 45 days. All students eligible will have to liaise with the Business Engagement Officer to co-ordinate this.
Exceptions
a) If a student is eligible to Free School Meals and working in a paid capacity on a placement, they will not receive these vouchers
b) If a student has an exceptional need and is suddenly disadvantaged by a change in their home circumstances e.g. by being into care, then an application for vouchers will be considered, but this will be paid from the Level 3 Eligibility criteria as found in the 16-19 Bursary Fund Policy.
Travel
If any student needs financial support towards travel costs which are over and above the cost of travelling to and from school on a daily basis, then they must liaise with Business Engagement Officer, in the first instance, who will co-ordinate with the Finance Team to establish the level of financial support available. It is most likely that essential tube travel or travel that takes over an hour for a student from to their placement will the only cases where this will be considered. This will only be offered to Free School Meal (disadvantaged) eligible students. There may be exceptional circumstances where other students, who are not disadvantaged can apply, but this will only be considered when a commute outside of London is required.
